As a faith-based company guided by Godly principles, we place a strong emphasis on how we treat our partners, residents, and each other. We continuously focus on aligning our day-to-day operations with our values and spend time and resources on team-building activities like daily devotions and quarterly retreats to develop purposeful ways to put our principles into practice.
Our staff is actively involved with a special needs class at a local elementary school. We cherish the relationship we’ve built with these remarkable students and their teachers and enjoy spending time with them at the Special Olympics, working in the class garden, or just eating pizza and having fun together. RISE also contributes 10% of our earnings to fund the betterment of the communities in which we live and work.
The Perry Project, one of our most meaningful programs, was established to celebrate our former Managing Partner, Charles Perry. Its goal is to place a Bible on every bed RISE develops. After Charles passed away suddenly in April, 2015, donations for The Perry Project have poured in from his friends and loved ones. The inaugural distribution of nearly 3,000 Bibles is scheduled for Fall, 2015.
An entrepreneur and business owner for over 21 years, Ryan serves as CEO of RISE. In this role, he is responsible for spearheading the company’s growth and providing strategic, executive, and developmental oversight.
Ryan began his tenure with us in the student housing arena, where he was instrumental in identifying and implementing a new financing structure allowing for utilization of a not-for-profit financial structure. Under his leadership, our company has grown and diversified its product and service offering. Originally focused on for-rent product development, we are now an all-inclusive developer, manager, and builder of numerous product types in a variety of markets. Additionally, Ryan offers valuable oversight of project-specific financing and project management. He seeks and identifies new project opportunities while working to enhance client relationships. Ryan also works closely with divisional leaders, offering insight and guidance on strategic planning and business development initiatives.
As RISE president, Greg coordinates and monitors all aspects of the development team. He is involved in all phases of project development, including underwriting analysis and project financing, to ensure timely and on- budget success. Additionally, he routinely interacts with a variety of industry professionals, including local, state, and university officials. His efforts to promote positive working relationships between all parties through every phase of project design and construction create partnerships that enhance our final product. Greg serves as project executive on all university-related projects, overseeing interactions with municipalities and university administrators during all phases of development.

Greg is an avid golfer and enjoys playing or watching most every sport. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, two boys, and daughter, relaxing poolside.
As Senior Vice President at RISE, Courtney Gordon oversees the management company with over $2 Billion in managed assets including a portfolio of over 21,000 student housing beds and 3,000 conventional units in 16 states. As a company, RISE owns and operates purpose built student housing both on and off campus, conventional high rise and garden apartments and mixed use developments.
Gordon is responsible for all aspects of the management company to include Strategic Acquisitions, New Business Development, Operations, Asset Management and Client Relations. Gordon’s leadership helps to direct the company’s exceptional culture while delivering exceptional results. As a member of the Executive Team, Gordon help to develop business strategies and keeps the operational goals in line with the long-term vision of RISE.
As Chief Financial Officer, Hunter is responsible for the accounting, finance, asset management and information technology for the Company. In this position, Hunter works closely with his colleagues to develop business strategies that support the overall mission, goals and objectives of the company, while providing overall financial leadership and direction. He is responsible for ensuring that proper financial controls are in place to maximize opportunities while minimizing risk to the company. Hunter oversees the Company’s investment portfolio and other investment opportunities.
Hunter works with the company’s other senior leaders to determine the best financing structure based on the projects analytics. He is responsible for coordinating the closing of the financing for each project. During each project’s construction, Hunter monitors the cost and oversees funding to ensure the projects are within budget.
Greg enjoys spending time with his family – wife and two sons, golfing, and football. He is a member of the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
As Regional Vice President, Tami Finan reports to the Senior Vice President and is responsible for directing the regional team responsible for operational oversight of the RISE student housing portfolio encompassing 21,000 student housing beds and 3000 conventional units in 16 states. She has twenty years’ experience in student housing with expertise in new lease-ups, receiverships, property repositioning, acquisitions and dispositions. Tami is responsible for driving the overall property performance of the RISE portfolio. She develops, evaluates and improves policies and procedures to guide daily site-level property operations with a focus on customer service, efficiency and profitability. She conducts physical inspections of field operations to ensure compliance with RISE standards and communicates regularly with clients regarding property operations and ensures a focus on ensuring maximum real estate value and cash flow generation to achieve the goals of third party owners including colleges and universities, university foundation boards and private owners.
As Regional Marketing Director, Jennifer Fox is responsible for marketing and leasing all communities in the RISE portfolio including new development partnerships, third-party contracts, and RISE-owned assets. Her primary responsibilities include identifying marketing opportunities in all active markets, develop marketing action plans and coordinate activities, assess and communicate marketing audits and implementation strategies, analyze occupancy trends, review annual marketing budgets, negotiate and maintain marketing vendor relationships, and site marketing and leasing training.
As VP, Jeremy is responsible for creating development opportunities by introducing RISE’s services to higher education clients. He also works closely with these collegiate partners throughout the development process for on-campus housing, dining, retail, structured parking, and other revenue-generating campus facilities. His key functions include creating and cultivating strong relationships with clients, spearheading RFP production, overseeing programmatic and conceptual design generation, pro forma and cost analysis, rental rate verification, managing consultants and other team members, and monitoring the overall schedule and progress of each development component.
Jeremy enjoys making memories with family, everything outdoors, in-shore and freshwater fishing, land management, and college football.
As Director of Human Resources, Brett Johnson brings over 11 years of HR experience in the property management/development and healthcare industries. Working closely with the Executive Team, he is responsible for all aspects of the personnel function for the company which includes implementing human resource management strategies that enable RISE to recruit, train, and retain a talented, engaged, and motivated workforce. Brett specializes in talent management, employee relations, benefits, worker’s compensation, leave management, and payroll.
As Vice President of Regional Service and Renovations, John Vance supervises RISE’s active renovation projects and works with Maintenance Supervisors across the portfolio training team members and overseeing challenging repairs and ongoing maintenance-related projects. He feels the maintenance team’s highest priority is supporting the on-site management team in serving all residents to the best of their abilities, and trains the team to operate with this goal in mind.
As Property Controller, Kristy Anderson supervises RISE’s team of Property Accountants and Accounts Payable Coordinators. She is responsible for the oversight of all accounting and financial reporting for properties currently managed by RISE. Under the supervision of the CFO, Kristy directly manages and establishes property management accounting processes and procedures, cash management, accounts payable, general ledger accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting for all third-party clients as well as RISE-owned assets in our management portfolio. Additionally, she coordinates and assists with annual budgets, audits and maintains banking relationships for all managed assets. As a member of the Operations team, she assists with implementing initiatives to optimize efficiencies within the property management group.
As Regional Maintenance Director, Chris Jackson is responsible for leading renovation projects, conducting portfolio-wide maintenance inspections, and training on-site maintenance teams to provide high-quality service.
As a Louisiana-based Regional Director, Alana Savoie manages all phases of day-to-day operations, growing with local team members into leaders that best serve owners, vendors and residents. She has experience in both conventional luxury lease ups as well as on and off-campus student housing. Alana specializes in marketing strategy and rent growth. Over the course of her 15-year career, she has applied her market knowledge to align her properties as market leaders.
As Senior Regional Director, Krista Votaw is responsible for operational oversight of a portfolio of student housing and market rate communities in multiple states. She provides regional oversight of hiring, training, marketing, leasing, budgeting, fiscal management, reporting and facilities management. Krista’s oversight and management ensures that her portfolio operates at the highest level of professionalism and is focused on ensuring maximum real estate value and cash flow generation to achieve the goals of RISE-owned assets and third-party owners including colleges, universities, university foundation boards and private owners. Additional responsibilities include new business development proposals and presentations and developing policies and procedures to enhance operations.
As a Florida-based Regional Director, Kirsten Weaver works with clients and mangers to ensure the properties are operating smoothly and meeting their leasing and NOI goals. Kirsten has worked professionally in student housing for over 10 years and utilizes her experience and industry knowledge to troubleshoot, mentor, and build lasting relationships with team members, clients, and vendors.
As a Regional Director, Carl Jones leads and directs a portfolio of RISE-managed properties across the country from Newark, Delaware to Laramie, Wyoming. His primary goal is to teach, train, motivate and develop the team members at each of his properties so that they’re stronger than they were the day before. In his 20 years of hospitality and student housing management, he has dedicated his energy to communication, relationship building and training, touting these areas as key to his teams’ successes.
As Development Project Manager for RISE, Nevin Anderson is responsible for oversight of student housing and conventional market rate projects from pre-development activities through construction completion and close out. Nevin coordinates and directs activities between contractors, professional consultants, architects and engineers. He serves as the project’s primary contact for university officials and local government entities, as well as a liaison between the RISE design consultant team, construction team, and all other project team members.
As Construction Project Manager for RISE, Vyron Bernard is primarily involved in construction projects on the campus of Louisiana State University. He is responsible for the coordination of construction-related activities between RISE team members, contractors and professional consultants, as well as university officials and governmental entities. As a licensed civil engineer for over 30 years, Vyron is a resource for a variety of RISE developments regarding site, civil and infrastructure design and construction activities.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Matthew is responsible for the creation, implementation, and completion of new business development for RISE. He focuses on diverse, higher education housing markets for both market rate and student housing pursuits. He participates in all phases of the development process to ensure a positive and successful experience for all partners, campuses, and municipalities. Matthew also has experience in multiple residential uses, including market rate housing, mixed-uses, building conversions, and extensive rehab projects. Working for both public and private firms with an array of financing models and development structures enables him to be a creative and productive member of the team.
Carla Ashley provides support to development project managers through the planning, directing and coordinating of all phases of project activities to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters. To achieve these goals, Ashley is responsible for the diligent coordination of project team members including development project managers, architects, contractors, program managers and university personnel. Ashley works closely with RISE’s marketing team in creating and updating collateral, marketing materials and project deal sheets. To further increase interaction with clients in attracting and enhancing business relations, Ashley also attends industry trade shows and other business related functions.
Ashley is RISE’s official Director of Fun, encouraging camaraderie and team building activities, as well as community service events.
New Smyrna Beach, Florida
Carla loves family time at the beach, salt water fishing, canning vegetables and making homemade salsa in the summer, and volunteering. She happens to love her RISE family too!
As VP of RISE, Paul is responsible for daily oversight of all aspects of university housing projects and auxiliary facilities, from preconstruction activities through construction completion. An architect by training with over 19 years of experience in real estate development, construction management, consulting, and architecture, he has proven experience representing university clients, financial institutions, and private investors. His experience includes student housing, multi-family, commercial, retail, and office projects throughout the United States.
Paul enjoys spending quality time with his family, playing competitive tennis, and being a spectator of all sports. He is the #1 fan of his children’s pursuits.
As Regional Director, Redmond helps to ensure that RISE properties run at the highest level of professionalism and are all set up to achieve annual budgeted NOI. She works in conjunction with the Vice President on day-to-day operations, monthly financials, and on site staff support. In addition, Redmond is poised to participate actively in RISE’s business development plan and pipeline growth.
As the Director of Information Technology, Ben McLendon is responsible for the strategic and tactical application of the technical solutions deployed to enhance the daily operations of the business. Ben is responsible for managing the I.T. team and supporting their on-going skills development. He works closely with the Executive Team to ensure technology and business alignment.
Ben is also responsible for the development of a custom web based business process management & workflow automation platform.
Ben enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys Playing Guitar, Bass, & Drums, and restoring old automobiles and motorcycles.
As Brand Manager, Fania Braaf is responsible for maintaining a consistent brand presence for internal communications as well as all outreach marketing. Fania oversees operations of the RISE in-house creative team. Additionally, she assists in preparation for conferences, trade shows, ad campaigns and other industry-related outreach. She also coordinates professional photography of RISE communities.
As controller, Tesa Spray is responsible for the daily accounting operations of the Company. With the Managing Partner, Spray also oversees the various human resource functions for the Company. In her capacity as Controller, she ensures that the controls set forth by the Company are in compliance. Spray is responsible for reporting all financial matters to the senior leadership of the Company, as well as preparing spreadsheets, forecasts and other financial information.
Spray works closely with project managers and outside consultants on project funding requests. She is responsible for analyzing the costs of each project. Spray also coordinates the timely funding of each request with the client.
Tesa enjoys spending time with her boys – her husband, son and her dog, being outdoors, walking/hiking, and reading a good mystery.
As development project manager for RISE, John Barefoot is responsible for daily oversight of student housing projects from pre-development activities through construction completion. Barefoot is responsible for the coordination and oversight of contractors, professional consultants, architects and engineers. Barefoot serves as the project’s primary contact for university officials and local government entities, as well as liaison between the RISE design consultant team, construction team, and all other project team members.
Since joining RISE Ryan Bourque has taken on all of the responsibilities of project manager. Bourque works to ensure the financial health of projects are met for both RISE and their clients by managing architects, engineers and contractors while keeping campus staff and executives engaged as the project is delivered. Bourque has over 11 years of development and construction management experience.
As development project manager for RISE, Rob Tharpe is responsible for daily oversight of student housing projects and auxiliary facilities including all aspects from pre-development activities through construction completion.
Tharpe is responsible for the coordination and oversight of contractors, professional consultants, architects and engineers. Tharpe serves as the project’s primary contact for university officials and local government entities, as well as liaison between the RISE design consultant team, construction team, and all other project team members.
Rob enjoys spending quality time with his family in the mountains, boating, water skiing, fishing, golfing, ATVing, hiking and running.
