August 20, 2010

The ribbon cutting for the North Georgia Suites took place on Friday, Aug. 6.

In his welcoming address, President Dr. David Potter said that North Georgia Suites, a project that took three years of planning and construction, was completed “on time and under budget.”

Located on Sunset Drive behind the Health and Natural Science building, North Georgia Suites will house 600 civilian students in suites that can accommodate two or four students.

Each suite has its own bathroom facilities and common areas include four day rooms per floor located in the highly-coveted corner areas and offering views of the North Georgia mountains.

Greg Blais, President of RISE, announced the endowment of two scholarships for North Georgia students, each $25,000. The firms of Choate Construction, Lord, Aeck & Sargeant, along with other project-associated individuals, will endow one scholarship while RISE is giving the other.

Dr. John Clower, Vice President of Student Affairs, offered praise for the architectural firm of Lord, Aeck & Sargeant for its ability to “incorporate our needs into their plans.”

Earlier, the ribbon cutting was held for Patriot Hall, the new cadet residence hall which will be home to some 350 cadets. Patriot Hall is located behind Gaillard Hall, another residence hall for members of the Boar’s Head Brigade.
