RISE Delivers First Phase of UL Lafayette Student Housing
RISE is proud to announce the successful completion of Baker Hall, a new student housing community as well as Olivier Tower, a structured parking facility on the University of Louisiana (UL) Lafayette campus. After achieving financial closing on December 14th of last year, this milestone includes 462 on-campus beds and 852 spaces of structured parking, representing the first components of the phased delivery of 2,000 beds by Fall 2012. Through a multi-phased delivery, the project team has been able to maintain UL’s existing on-campus housing capacity while delivering these new facilities, which are primarily replacement housing.
Despite challenging weather conditions, Baker Hall was constructed in just over eight months and opened the doors to its residents for the fall semester at 100% capacity. Housing 462 students, the 117,000 sq. ft., four-story building combines the convenience of on- campus living with the amenities that today’s student desires.

Baker Hall’s exterior features a full brick façade with cast stone panels headers to match and complement the surrounding buildings on-campus. A two-story columned entry provides a grand central access point to the building. Inside, students were excited to find what they described as hotel-like finishes and amenities.
Offering furnished suite-style rooms with kitchenettes, Baker Hall provides UL students with options for modern, on-campus living that fosters a socially interactive living- learning environment. Common areas for studying, high-tech laundry facilities as well a community kitchen and lounge provide students with opportunities for intermingling while embracing a community atmosphere.
Located adjacent to Baker Hall is Olivier Tower, a newly constructed parking facility that was completed within the same nine-month construction timeline. The new six-level deck was built on the 1.31 acre site of the UL Lafayette Credit Union and includes 10,000 sq. ft. of street level commercial space that serves as the new home for the Credit Union as well as the University’s Parking and Transit Services department.
Construction on Huger Hall, UL’s next addition in on- campus housing, is underway directly behind Baker. Huger will be a mirror image of the Baker building and will be available to students for the spring semester, which will allow several of UL’s existing halls to come off- line for renovation or replacement. The addition of these two halls is part of the University’s desire to increase the density of housing on the core of campus while greatly improving students’ on-campus housing options.
RISE serves as developer and working with team members, Niles Bolton Associates and the Lemoine-Juneau Joint Venture, led the team to a successful completion of Baker Hall and Olivier Tower.
