Jacksonville State University held a topping out ceremony for the RISE-developed, 515-bed North Village Residence Hall on October 17, 2023. Attendees included the JSU Foundation, Board of Trustees, student leaders, housing staff, and team members from RISE, Choate Construction, and Niles Bolton Associates. Part of the topping out ceremony included a meal provided to attendees and subcontractors as well as a raffle.
The North Village Residence Hall project was awarded to RISE following a nationally competitive process. This P3, on-campus development officially broke ground in April 2023 and is scheduled for a Fall 2024 delivery. This development is the first new residence hall delivered to campus since 2010.
JSU President, Don Killingsworth, shared his thoughts on the development’s progress, “This building has come out of the ground like a phoenix coming out of the ashes. This is going to be our largest residence hall that we’ve ever built on this campus. And this is going to transform our campus for the future.”
Randall Jones, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, told those in attendance, “This has been a dream and a vision. Know that every one of you here, this is going to be part of your legacy. We’re doing this for our students so our students can become alumni, and get great jobs and provide for their families, and help build the future for this region, for this state, and for this country.”
RISE Senior Vice President, Jeremy Doss, noted the lasting and transformative impact that projects like these have on a campus. Over the 40-year life of the 515-bed building more 20,000 students will call this residence hall home where they will live, study, and make memories.
Following the lunch and raffle, attendees toured the building. RISE is partnered with Choate Construction and Niles Bolton Associates and the general contractor and architect of record, respectively.
